The Invention of Lying

On February 1st Universal will release The Invention of Lying:

"At first glance, Mark Bellison (Ricky Gervais) appears to live in a world just like our own. The difference is that in Mark’s world no-one lies. Everyone is completely honest all the time and this life isn’t going great for Mark. His recent first date with the flamboyantly frank Anna (Jennifer Garner) only serves to highlight deal-breaking flaws, and when he is fired from his job as a screenwriter for failing to find anything entertaining to write about The Plague he’s at rock bottom.

Until one day, whilst withdrawing his last bit of savings, he discovers he has the ability to lie. As the only man in the truthful world who can lie, Mark is quick to maximize his new found talent, cheating at the casino, but also proving that telling the odd pork pie isn’t always bad. Mark spins a few yarns to help out his friends, and ultimately uses his special gift to win the affection of Anna. Events take a turn for the worse as Mark’s mum gets sick and is admitted to an old people’s home, or, as it’s known in the truthful world, A Sad Place For Hopeless Old People, Mark desperately attempts to comfort his mother who fears facing an eternity of emptiness. He promises an afterlife, a place where everybody she loves will be waiting, but this lie meant for his mum alone is overheard by the hospital staff, and Mark’s life is changed forever as he is thrust into the spotlight as an international authority on the afterlife.

Hilarity ensues as crowds flock to Mark’s house, camping out on his lawn to learn more about the ‘Man in the Sky’. Mark is seen as a messiah, and he certainly delivers. Sucking in and bamboozling the masses as he posts his theology on pizza boxes and develops his character further by growing a beard and donning a long white robe."

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

On April 6th - yes that is AGES away - Entertainment In Video will release The Lord of the Rings Trilogy onto Blu-ray for the first time:

"Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, one of the most magical, intensely spectacular epic adventures in motion picture history, can now be seen as never before when all three of Peter Jackson’s visual masterpieces explode onto Blu-ray as The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy. The nine-disc set will reawaken the powerful connection that fans have to these films through rich, robust colours and crisp sound that home audiences can only experience on Blu-ray Disc.

The Lord of the Rings, the highest grossing adventure film franchise to ever be created, was born with the release of The Fellowship of the Ring, followed by The Two Towers and The Return of the King. The multi-billion dollar franchise is expected to grow significantly as The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy brings together all three treasured films on Blu-ray Disc for the very first time, presented for home audiences the way they were meant to be seen. The Trilogy’s Blu-ray release captures the enduring Fellowship and ultimate sacrifice while enhancing the chaos and destruction of Middle-earth, delivering a visual feast that will not soon, if ever, find its equal. Of the 30 total Academy Award nominations the three The Lord of the Rings movies received, they won a record 17 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and 8 others for the third film. Based on the best-selling novels by J.R.R. Tolkien, Jackson’s movie trilogy is an epic journey of men, hobbits, elves, dwarves and the rest of Middle-earth’s creatures and cultures. The films chronicle the struggle of good versus evil with fantastic special effects and a strong emotional centre.

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy contains the original theatrical versions of the three films on Blu-ray Disc, with more than seven hours of special features. The Trilogy will be packaged in multi-disc elite packaging inside a premium rigid slipcase. Extended versions of the films will be released at a later date on Blu-ray Disc."

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil. In the films, Frodo and his fellowship of friends and allies embark on a desperate journey to rid Middle-earth of the source of Sauron's greatest strength, the One Ring -- a ring that has the power to enslave the inhabitants of Middle-earth. The trilogy tells tales of extraordinary adventures across the treacherous landscape of Middle-earth and reveals how the power of friendship, love and courage can hold the forces of darkness at bay. Beside Wood, the films star Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, featuring Sean Bean, and Ian Holm, with Andy Serkis as Gollum. Mesrine Parts 1 & 2

On January 25th Momentum Pictures will release Mesrine Parts 1 & 2:

"Directed by Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precinct 13) and described by the critics as ‘lethally seductive, irresistibly energetic and dangerously charismatic’, the two-part, four hour epic charts the rise and fall of the often marvelled, yet utterly ruthless gangster Jacques Mesrine. The films follow the incredible series of hold-ups, prison breaks and kidnappings and are brought to the screen almost 30 years after Mesrine’s spectacular death, shot down in a hail of police bullets.

MESRINE: KILLER INSTINCT introduces us to Jacques Mesrine (Cassel), a loyal son and dedicated soldier back home and living with his parents after serving in the Algerian War. Handsome and charming, he is soon seduced by the neon glamour of Sixties Paris and the easy money it presents. Mentored by Guido (Depardieu), Mesrine soon moves swiftly up the criminal ladder, choosing the high risk life of a gangster over the honest life of the hard working family. After pulling off an audacious heist he and his lover Jeanne (Cecile de France), flee to Canada where the opportunity of one big payout lures him out of hiding and propels him towards international notoriety.

The incredible and brutal story continues in MESRINE: PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1. Now back in France, Mesrine is finally in police custody and facing justice for his crimes but he is soon on the run once again. After escaping a courtroom and kidnapping the judge at gunpoint, Mesrine is declared Public Enemy Number One and finds an adversary in his chief and most dogged pursuer, Commander Broussard. Broussard soon corners Mesrine who is condemned to a maximum security prison where he writes his first memoirs, establishing himself as a household name and anti-hero across France. With fellow inmate Francois Besse (Mathieu Amalric) he stages another daring escape and disappears into the lawless underworld, taunting the police and reinventing himself as a celebrity criminal through his savvy manipulation of the media. After such a monumental rise, comes the inevitable fall as Broussard closes in, bringing the life of Jacques Mesrine to full bloody circle."

The screwdriver punctures a tyre on the lead car, resulting in a series of multiple crashes which sends flaming debris and wreckage into the stands. Nick’s friends are killed before he himself dies under an avalanche of rubble from the collapsing upper tier of the stand.

When he comes back to reality, Nick panics and persuades his girlfriend Lori (Shantel VanSanten) and their friends Janet (Haley Webb) and Hunt (Nick Zano) to leave the racetrack with him. To their horror and only seconds after they get out, Nick’s frightening vision starts to come true and the cars begin careering all over the track, crashing into each other and turning into massive fireballs which hurl huge chunks of metal into the pits and the stands. The group of friends are thankful to be alive and think they have cheated Death but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it turns out to be just the start of a terrifying sequence of events as his premonitions continue and his friends die one-by-one in increasingly gruesome ways.
